In anticipation of Bisexual Awareness Week (‪#‎BiWeek‬) — which begins Sept. 20 — the out and proud American bisexual activist, actress and mom Evan Rachel Wood, has shared more personal insight into bisexuality via a series of passionate, educational and enlightening tweets.

On Thursday night (Sept. 17), Wood began by quoting a Human Rights Campaign blog post published earlier that day entitled, “Bisexual Adults Face Heightened Risk for Health Issues Including Cancer, STDs and Depression” .The report highlights research about bisexual individuals’ mental, physical and sexual health, and urges more inclusive studies about the bi community.

“The reality is that bisexual people face discrimination not only outside of our community, but also from within. And that can discourage them from engaging in and benefitting from the work that LGBT advocates are doing to address our mental, physical and sexual health,” Wood wrote on Twitter, quoting HRC.

After sharing those select quotes from HRC’s blog post, the 28-year-old continued by lamenting the discrimination that bisexual people face, even within the LGBT community. She also clarified to one user Twitter user that having a two-year-old son with her ex-husband, Jamie Bell, doesn’t change her identity on the sexual spectrum; she is, as she says, “still bisexual.” (via Bisexual Women

14 DEATHS THIS YEAR. PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE.

Yesterday, August 14, 2015 will go down in the history of our US trans community and our trans rights movement as a very tough day for us. We had announcements of two more trans younglings in Detroit murdered in Amber Monroe and Ashton O’Hara. We had in North Carolina the announcement that the remains of Angel Elisha Walker had been found after she disappeared 10 months ago. And we are also trying to confirm the death of Kandis Capri in Phoenix.

The infuriating thing about all these cases that adds to the pain of their losses is that all of them were under 30 years of age.

The ray of sunshine in those dark clouds of despair is that in two of the cases. the perpetrators are sitting in jail awaiting further action from law enforcement.

We are in a human rights war we didn’t start, but have no choice but to fight it and win. At stake is our humanity and our human rights, and like all wars, unfortunately there are casualties.

We take a moment to mourn our dead, dry our tears, comfort those who loved our fallen sisters and then steel ourselves for what we know we must do. We must fight tooth and nail for a better world for our trans kids, trans kind and all humanity so that we aren’t having days like August 14, 2015 ever again.

We will do what we Black transfolks have always done. We will fight with every fiber of our being for our lives, our humanity, our human rights and our ultimate freedom from the tyranny that other misguided people wish to impose on us.

‪#‎BlackTransLivesMatter‬. They always have, always will, and they are worth fighting for.

Bi vs Pan from Minus18

I ran across this article Bisexual VS Pansexual the other day from a youth organization in Australia. I just have to help this article get around. It offers one of the best explanations of bisexual and pansexual labels.

Important Announcement: For Loraine and Nan

Listen up gang. This one is important.

You see this woman there? That is Loraine Hutchins – bisexual activist, author, educator, feminist, and BAMF of the highest order. She has been a bisexual activist LONGER THAN MOST OF US HAVE BEEN ALIVE …

In 1991 Loraine co-authored Bi Any Other Name: Bisexual People Speak Out with Lani Ka’ahumanu. This book revolutionized the LGBTQ world by giving bisexual people a chance to Speak Up about Their Own Lives instead of being Spoken About.

Loraine personally conducted interviews with bisexual men dying of AIDS to make sure their voices and experiences would be preserved and included. In 25 years the book has never been out of print. It has become a beloved classic … So many of us here … are finding Our Community and Our History and Our Culture and Our Voices here, in large part because we stand on the shoulders of giants like Loraine.

And behind every great woman is another woman who is helping her make sure shit gets done, and that is what Loraine’s partner Nancy has done for years behind the scenes.

Or as they say: “Loraine and Nancy have shared a home and various business partnerships for the last 7 years and Nancy has often served as Loraine’s personal assistant, being the wind beneath her wings, in all the ways that’s meant.”

However Nancy has recently received a Terminal Diagnosis and Loraine NEEDS OUR HELP to pay for her Ongoing Hospice Care.

And they are falling short of their $12,000 goal. By like a lot. Which personally fills me with Sadness and Rage.

I want you ALL to Ask Yourselves if you can afford to give Loraine even just $1 as a THANK YOU for Everything she has done For Us as an Expression of Gratitude for every person who has ever found themselves in the pages of Bi Any Other Name, and as an Expression of Love for a life lived in service to her community

If you can’t, I want to know if you can signal boost this to every corner of the internet you know. Pound pavement people. Please please please. Loraine deserves that and more.

It is with our deepest regret we accept the resignation of Allison Woolbert as co-host. We will continue to support The Trans Violence Tracking Project and the good works they do. Allison’s advocacy for the trans community has been invaluable. Both for the community itself and our show. We will continue our advocacy for the trans community as allies.

SMASHING 3 of the BIGGEST Falsities about Bisexuality

SMASHING 3 of the BIGGEST Falsities about Bisexuality

1) Bisexuality is Binary (only allowing for attraction to men and women) = False

The Bisexual community has always embraced trans and other gendered people. Many transexuals and other gendered persons also identify as bisexual. Bisexuals are attracted to more than one gender. That can be cisgender, transexuals, intersexuals, or other gender fluid identified persons.

2) Bisexuals are “equally” attracted to men and women = False

Many bisexuals find themselves romantically attracted to one gender more than another gender. We may be emotionally attracted to one gender and only sexually attracted to another gender. Some bisexuals ARE equally attracted to more than one gender, while others find themselves leaning more in one direction or another.

3) Bisexuals must be with men and women simultaneously = False

Most bisexuals are also monogamous. Some bisexuals are polyamorous. In either case, bisexuals often make commitments of exclusivity to partners, whether one partner, or more than one.

BONUS FACT: There is nothing that can possibly happen while in relationship with a bisexual person that cannot also happen while in relationship with a heterosexual or homosexual person.
